Pope Leo XIV began his first days as pope with a full schedule: meeting the cardinals who elected him, visiting the tombs of his predecessors, and praying for peace. He revealed the inspiration behind his name—Leo XIII and Rerum Novarum—and highlighted today’s digital revolution and its threats to human dignity. He visited the Shrine of the Mother of Good Counsel in Genazzano, which has been run by the Augustinians since 1200, and prayed at St. Mary Major and the tomb of Pope Francis. On Sunday, the new pope celebrated Mass in the Vatican Grottoes. Later, during his first Regina Caeli address to an estimated 100,000 pilgrims, he echoed the words of John Paul II—“Do not be afraid”—and called for peace in Ukraine, Gaza, and beyond. On Monday, he met with global journalists, affirming the Church’s recognition of those risking their lives for truth and protecting human dignity. Now, Pope Leo XIV begins his first full week as head of the Church. EWTN Vatican Journalist Valentina Di Donato has more.
