On the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, we are reminded of the power, glory, and victory found in the Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

This homily recalls the historic courage of Don Juan of Austria, who in 1570 lifted high the crucifix as a sign of victory against overwhelming forces threatening Catholic Europe. Through the Cross, victory was won—not by human strength, but by the redeeming power of Christ.

The message continues with reflections on the sacramental life of the Church—the Holy Eucharist, the Sacrament of Confession, and the daily sign of the Cross—reminders that we share in Christ’s triumph when we remain in sanctifying grace.

Amid today’s darkness and trials, including sorrowful events that shake our hearts, the Cross shines ever brighter. It remains our shield, our light, and our hope. When we kiss the wounds of Christ, we embrace not defeat, but the promise of eternal life and the assurance that the darkness shall never conquer.
