Discover the inspiring life of Saint Meenus (Main of Rennes), a humble Breton bishop and miracle worker, featured in Butler’s Lives of the Saints for November 6.

Born in Plac, in the region of Brittany, St. Meenus devoted his early life to prayer and service in the monastery. When the bishop St. Amandre died, Meenus was compelled by the faithful to accept the role of Bishop of Rennes.

He played a vital role in the Council of Orléans (501), upheld discipline among the clergy, and was known for his humility, deep prayer life, and miraculous works. Even King Clovis—after his conversion—held him in great esteem. St. Meenus passed away before 549, leaving behind a legacy of holiness that continues to inspire the faithful today.

His feast is still celebrated in Rennes, and formerly in Mulan of Cornwall, where he became patron of the city, distinct from St. Melon of Normandy.
